Hi Martoons fan!

A personal anecdote – I am finally getting my mind around “mindful consumerism”. Case in point: I go to buy some new sweatpants at the mall. I root through a few stores and come up with apparently decent colour and quality with a tolerable price. I try ’em on in the fitting room. Are they cotton? No – 100% polyester. Wait a minute: Where were these made? China. Folks like to complain about lousy Chinese quality but who’s doing anything about it?

The mindful consumer is. The mindful consumer takes 30 seconds or a minute and decides, “No, I am not going to buy this item.” So I didn’t. A bit later in another store I walked right into another pair, but shorts this time. Hey summer, I need ’em. ONE HUNDRED PER CENT COTTON. Made in Jordan. Jordan! I’ve been there. Nice place. Great ruins for the tourists. I’m buying these! I left the store with a satisfied feeling (for once.)

That’s mindful consumerism. Take that extra moment and “mind your consumerism”.
