Behind the scenes at martoons…

Hi Martoons fan!

Today’s three images show you the exact approach martoons brings to its cartoons: Go all the way or go away. Look at the first frame and then the second. That was the original artwork that martoons’ artist Naliesy submitted. The editor deemed it not “martoonsy” enough and requested that frame two be revised with the humour turned up a notch.

Naliesy was not alone. Occasionally martoons’ artists will take the editor’s original sketch and – perhaps subconsciously – tone down the humour. I tell them if in doubt don’t play it safe and leave the reader with a smile or light chuckle. Exaggerate as per the sketch and leave the reader laughing … hysterically.
