MT#1422 Excerpt from the original martoons’ notebook
Hi martoons fan!
Every time period has its blockbuster words. Somebody somewhere (we never seem to know who or where) introduces a new word. It gains traction for a while. Then it dies out. Why? Usually because what the word signified in reality didn’t really happen in reality. In recent times some of those words were “heartbreaking” and “resilient”.
Almost every time somebody is interviewed on TV, they use one of these words. It becomes like a mantra. The word in today’s cartoon is from 2012. Back in those days, leaders of all stripes claimed that what they were doing – a program or project – was inclusive, meaning that all kinds of hitherto ignored people would no longer be ignored.
Yet the word only lasted a few years. One wonders if all the folks who had been ignored now were finally being listened to? Or, the leaders stopped using the word because “inclusion” just wasn’t happening and audiences got tired of the BS. The true answer likely lies somewhere on that spectrum.
At least, however, you can get some laughs out of today’s hot wind-bag candidate in the forum. Hopefully the voters saw through his big word and sent him to the golf course.
