Hey martoons fan!

After 30 days in Egypt (no tour group), I have one take away to pass on: To be successful at travel, especially in a foreign culture such as Egypt, you as the enlightened traveler have to create your own micro system or eco system. Looking back, I should have bought a kettle for my shabby hotel room; I should have had a bar fridge to keep food – little seemingly trivial things like that. Whether you admit it or not, certain items and activities are central to who you are. Looking back, the travel groups which I often scorn I think have it nailed. They dive into the culture in little bits, then withdraw back into their comfort zone to catch a breath or reboot. I didn’t do that. I took the deep dive. And barely made it out in one piece! After 30 days in a strange land, I fled to the airport and exited. Cheers, Marty West, editor, clickmartoons.com
