Hi mARToons fan!

A tricky thing about doing cartoons and trying to get them published is sometimes the editor will want you to change it.

The big question is “how much”?

The top cartoon I submitted to the Prince George Citizen (in BC, Canada) and the editor Neil Godbout rejected it saying that the readers would be upset by all the dog poops in the drawing.

So I changed it to the version below and he published it.

Yet it is a slippery slope.

Sometimes the changes can be substantial and alter the essential message or impact of the cartoon.

And editors have a habit of getting used to suggesting changes, so sometimes the artist’s best bet is to stick to the original and it the editor rejects it, walk away and try again some other time.
